Raggs Plays Okami [22] [Down The Hatch] [Blight]

Damn, I got my ass kicked here x__x. Perhaps I should’ve used a reflector or the stronger sword (wasn’t sure at that if you get it at this point, though in hindsight I think you can).

Ya, not sure about when the next part will be, though I do know what it will be. Requires a bit of playing, but it will be a very short part. It doesn’t help that I woke up with a cold on Saturday and have had a head throbbing with nose goo for days. I got my cough back too. And just to add, I’m leaving for Thanksgiving family stuff over the weekend (yes, Canadians have it in October).

Info: Blight isn’t hard (especially if you stockpile on health items), but is perhaps the most ANNOYING little bug in this game. His attacks happen in the blink of an eye and isn’t vulnerable for long, calling for mist spamming. When you hit him repeatedly or slash the glowing sword, it separates and leaves Goldnail open for a beat-up.

Raggs Plays Okami [21] [Smooooooooke On The Waaaaaaaaaaater] [Imperial Palace]

Well, not smoke exactly, but you get it. Gah, why does this game make me do all these drug references all at the same area? Well, the song isn’t about drugs, but lots of people associate it.

Miiiiiiiiiiiiiist! At last! Boss is coming up next, but I don’t know when I can record next. I woke up with a cold on Saturday.

Raggs Plays Okami [20] [Ammy Gets Hammered] [Imperial Palace]

I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist. Come now, it’s impossible that Clover or whoever translated DIDN’T mean for this to be made fun of.

So, Ammy has been shrunk down to Issun’s size and they’re wandering through the palace to find where the mist is coming from. Kind of neat how they did it, don’cha think?

Palace: I couldn’t remember too much of this place, but it is one of the easier dungeons. After playing, it’s pretty short (slightly longer than Tsuta Ruins maybe) and a fair amount of platforming. Not a lot of hazards until later on and the brush technique you get is one of the most useful to spam on your opponent.

Anyways, Okamiden is a bit of a hot topic among fans, especially since it’ll be released here in a matter of months. I don’t think it’s fair to juge things entirely by tiny bits of gameplay and trailers, though it’s not like I think that the game will be even close to how good this is. The people that made the game (now in Platinum Studios) said themselves that they aren’t making a sequel, so this is most likely someone different in Capcom. Most of the things I’m thinking is wrong with the game is mostly because it’s a DS game. DS games have limited possibilities with graphics and length, which was something Okami was famous for. Another thing is that I do not approve of the super-cuteness and the premise behind the story makes no sense to me. That is all I’ll say about the game until it comes out and can eventually play it. Or maybe I’ll peek at some lengthly Japanese gameplay stuff first.

Raggs Plays Okami [19] [Creeps From The Deep] [Sunken Ship]

Finally done with that freaking ship!

Yep, nothing else to say. I didn’t feel like cutting it out. Less for me to nutshell anyways.

Raggs Plays Okami [18] [Little Ship Of Horrors] [Sunken Ship]

Man, I shriek too much in this place.

Ya, sorry about the wait. I had too much stuff to do, mostly related to starting school and continuing in the contest with Possk (semi-finalists, woo). I ended up deciding to do the Sunken Ship because I thought it would’ve been silly to skip it just because of no bosses in it. This was a fairly long sitting and I did both the ship and the Imperial Palace, which was over 1 hour together, so expect 4-6 pieces.

Sunken Ship: Really short (as short, maybe shorter than the Gale Shrine), very few fights, but they really cram it in on you. Unlike some of the other dungeons, this one has a fair amount of puzzle solving and using your environment with minimal use of your brush. This is also the only dungeon without a boss fight, though you get a pair of forced battles Jiro & Saburo and their combined form Ichiro that you can’t find normally in other places (I think they come in one of the gate fights). Yep, that’s pretty much it. There’s not much to explain.

Raggs Plays Okami [17] [Ammy The Dragon Slayer] [Orochi]

FALSE ENDING! FALSE ENDING! Those of us who played without spoilers or any idea how long it was, admit it, we all thought this was the end of the game. I remember myself I finished at just under 20 hours my first time, and then thinking “…no fucking way…” when I was shown that this is only the first major arc (out of 3 major arcs: Orochi, and then eventually Ryoshima Coast and Kamui). This is just like in most other bloody Zelda games where you THINK you’re done, but the bad guy has something up his sleeve and you have so much more to do (such as the whole 7-years thing in OOT and being dragged into the Dark World in LTTP) *shot*. But ya, none of us really minded, right? The game only gets more epic from here.

The beads are coming off! I’m serious this time lol. After 100 years, it’s Ammy vs Orochi round 2, and even though she’s weaker than her former self, so is Orochi. The result? Will there be more fail in this miserable place? You’ll have to see.

I’ve been giving a lot of love to the reflectors (which is unlike me), but with the fight’s prize, I’ll be pretty much using the swords from now on. Just my style of fighting.

Info: Even though it’s sickeningly long and filled to the brim with cutscenes, this is still one of my favourite fights in the game even though it isn’t very challenging (well, most things in this game aren’t very challenging). Orochi’s fight is pretty busy since at any given time, you could be hit by the effects of two heads (depends on the head of course). The way you defeat them is the same, which is to get them stone drunk and then start attacking. Man, isn’t that epic? In the next stage, they no longer use elemental attack and then just snap at you (and naturally, their reach is still pretty good. I’m getting attacked by heads I’m not even focusing on). Then you have a Susano thing and one of the only times you’ll use crescent for battle progression.

Two rolling puzzles in one dungeon? That can’t be legal! Bah, this one is a million times easier at least.

Finally the end to this bloody cave and off to the main event, Orochi! Yes, everything so far has built up to this one battle (well, most of the battle is in the next part). Due to the video’s length (and it being too awkward to trim the the cutscenes), Orochi’s battle technically is in two videos, but most of the fighting will be in the next video. The first “stage” really isn’t that much of a fight, especially since I forgot something *cough*.

Raggs Plays Okami [15] [Did I Ever Say How I Hate This Room?] [Moon Cave]

Just bringing it up again if the last 50 times weren’t clear enough on how I want to jab a rotton mayo-covered dagger into the gut of this room. Who the hell is Orochi’s interior designer? Most likely the same one that designed Ganon’s castle from Link To The Past. Oh those bad memories in that place. Did I also say that I hate invisible floors?

And ALWAYS! ALWAYS! IT NEVER FUCKING FAILS! ALWAYS WHEN I’M RECORDING! GRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

*dusts self off* Well, uhhh, ya. This is the last full part with the dungeon. It would’ve gone faster if I didn’t get stuck in a certain room *cough*.

Raggs Plays Okami [14] [Fire It Up!] [Moon Cave]

Getting some real progress. Got another one of my favourite brush techniques, inferno (though the poor phoenix is playing the “role” of “rooster”). The fire effects in this game are very pretty, yes?

It’s confirmed. This will be 5 parts, with 3.5 for the dungeon and 1.5 for the boss. I wanted to put Orochi in it’s own part, but I didn’t want to skip on that many cutscenes or make a 6th part. I’ll say it again: People in this game talk too much lol.

Raggs Plays Okami [13] [THE FACE OF ULTIMATE EVIL!] [Calcified Cavern/Moon Cave]

Posted by itstailtime on February 4, 2013

Oh yes.

It’s off to save Kushi and go pick a fight with Orochi! Right, so this dungeon/boss will take at least 5 videos. Got stuck a few times. Woo, another oppertunity to be lazy with recording. I say it in the annotations, but I’ll say it again here. I get very…vocal during this recording. Don’t put your speakers high. Raising the mic boost and doing the Moon Cave was not a good idea. I know that now.

Info: Entering one of my least liked dungeons, second only to Oni Island. It can be very frustrating, especially if you’re new or can’t remember the passageways. It’s not the largest dungeon, but it’s not hard to get confused with the many paths in the hub area. Lots of battles also litter the place, and the enemies are getting stronger. When you look at the rest of the videos, you’ll see how worked up I get over this place. Other than that, it’s also fairly light-hearted with impy antics despite the gloomy decor. This is also one of the few places (I believe) that you can’t return to.
