Raggs Plays Okami [12] [What A Load Of Bull] [Crimson Helm]

Posted by itstailtime on February 4, 2013
Posted in: Okami Boss Run, raggs plays. Leave a comment

*shouldn’t be allowed to make puns*
While I’m making Ginga refs, Akakabuto (“Red Helmet”) would’ve made a better boss than this. Am I right, Ginga fans?

With Crimson Helm defeated, that half-baked prophet snatched the Serpent Crystal and is off to the Moon Cave. You know what that means. Gah, I’m so not excited to do that dungeon. At least the boss battle is worth it.

Info: I’ll be dead honest. A lot of people have (fairly small) issues with how easy this game is. I’m one of them for the most part. Why? Because boss fights shouldn’t be this fast without an uber weapon. It took me much longer using roseries my first time around, but the reflector knocks off a disgusting amount of damage. It would’ve been much faster if I didn’t play so defensively. Crimson Helm has a decent variety of attacks. He can charge, send a stream of flames, jump, and create firey rings, attacks similar to the Bull Chargers later in the game (that I find much harder by the way). But with the 8 orbs floating around, giving you 8 guilt-free hits, no worries. Just slash him when he’s still, he explodes into flames, blow it out, and then go nuts on his skeleton. One of the fastest-to-beat bosses in the game.

Raggs Plays Okami [11] [Gone With The Galestorm] [Gale Shrine]

*shot for title* …and does anyone notice that the middle thumbnails for the last two videos are in the same area?

Lol, the automatic tags suggest “educational” and “handheld console”. I don’t know which one is more worthy of a wtf. lol

Getting one of my favourite brush techniques from my favourite brush god. Galestorm is so pretty, isn’t it? Anyways, because the video was 33 minutes long (lots of cutscenes and a Susano thing, couldn’t find many worthwhile places to cut out), I had to make this really short. Regardless, at least it gave me the option of putting Mr Boss in his own video.

Raggs Plays Okami [10] [Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaail] [Gale Shrine]

Couldn’t think of a creative title. Gah, I hate myself with how much time I wasted. Well, first video of the Gale Shrine, the second dungeon. The only things I remembered were a few sections, the brush, and the boss. Nothing on the layout.

And for some reason WMM is still giving me shit.

Info: Going through this place made me remember why I never remembered much. IT’S SO FREAKING SMALL! Seriously, it has to be one of the smallest dungeons in this game (especially compared to larger ones like Oni Island and the Moon Cave). Hardly any fights, not very many areas to explore, so it’s all really easy…when you know where you’re going. I could’ve fit this easily in 2 videos if I didn’t waste time being stupid.

Raggs Plays Okami [9] [Holy Crap!] [Canine Warriors Gi and Jin]

Ugh, this video didn’t edit well. I spent hours trying to sync it. In WMM, when I play it one time, it sounds perfect. Play it again (no shifting or other edits) and it sounds different. Damn, it’s freaking haunted. In the end, I ran all of the footage into WMM and did syncing in Vegas. I also have inconsistant audio, but that’s better than it being painfully out of sync. Grr, other problems better not come up.

Gi: Not much to say except he fights by kicking up dirt and all the other attacks.

Jin: Fights almost exactly like Chu with his holes (I didn’t fall in! Yay!) but he also decides to plays real dirty if you know what I mean. Pfft, a goddess has to spend millions of yen (useless thing anyways, just got it for laughs), yet the pink Akita gets it for free?

Next video will be the second dungeon, the Gale Shrine. I can’t remember the layout very well (less than Tsuta Ruins), oh boy…

Raggs Plays Okami [8] [Woo, Ginga Refs!] [Canine Warriors Tei & Chu]

Took a bit of a break to catch up on AMV stuff, since as always, I put them first. Finished Madokara Mieru as well as did my first (and possibly only) collab with the oh-so-famous Possk (ie the one that forgot Spyro could swim).

Anyways, as described in the first bit, tell me if these nutshell videos are necessary. If no one likes them, I’ll just put a small plot blurb in the description. It’s just one more thing to edit and does eat up time.

This part (as well as maybe the next part or two) will involve fighting the Canine Warriors. The first two are here, Tei and Chu. I remember these two being harder, but I guess I was thinking about something else. Princess Fuse and the Canine Warriors are based on classic Japanese literature, featuring the Hakkenshi, 8 spiritual sons (associated with dog spirits) born to Satomi House’s Princess Fuse.

Tei: Pretty basic formula and all Canine Warrior battles. When the orb glows, he’s invincible and starts to attack usually going berserk or doing a frontal charge.

Chu: Pretty much the same sort of fight, except this little bugger is faster and seems to jump around a lot more. Also, he likes to dig, throwing up dirt (like Kyoshiro from GDW) and leaving holes to get you stuck and then he attacks from there. Dirty bastard.

Raggs Plays Okami [7] [8 AM Recording Sucks] [Waka Rematch]

Bah, everything seemed to go wrong. I could only record early in the morning, stupid scrolls wouldn’t leave me alone, was half asleep, and my microphone was (and still is) giving me some light static. It was doing that in the ruins too. You don’t notice it as much when the game is playing, but loading screens and nutshell stuff is pretty obvious. My mic is fine, my sound card is fine, stupid technology!

Info: The next fight against Waka is much easier than before due to no water hazards. Doesn’t look like it’s easier, but that’s because I was a half-asleep idiot that couldn’t switch herself off from Kingdom Hearts mode (WHY IS IT CIRCLE!?). His attacks are longer, he moves around more, does more damage, and tires out less, but that’s nothing major.

I REALLY don’t know how I’m going to do the next 4 sub-bosses. They are all part of one group, aren’t too hard, but there is a lot of stuff between them. Most likely I’ll do them in individual videos. The second one I know doesn’t need a nutshell thing, so maybe I’ll do some editing.

Regardless, next video will contain Tei.

Raggs Plays Okami [6] [First Boss Beatdown] [Spider Queen]

Posted in: Okami Boss Run, raggs plays. Leave a comment

Finally, we’re at the first boss, and she’s a big’un.

Well, I guess I should start recording again *ran out of videos*.

Info: If you’ve beaten her once, you’ll never forget how to beat her again if you’ve done 100% runs. The Spider Queen is the most replayed boss in the entire game, since even though you technically face her twice (here and the ark), there are 3 Bandit Spiders later in the game (N/S Ryoshima Coast and Kamui) that are taken down with the same technique. Regardless, it’s a quick fight that most newbies could figure out (took me a while since my tv is so dark and couldn’t see the hooks). It’s possible to beat her without seeing all of her moves. I’ve heard you can also swing yourself on the vines for a better look, but I like to keep Ammy’s four paws on the ground. Queeny gets in your grill a lot, but she’s one of those “if you keep moving, you won’t get hit” sort of enemies. Sitting in between her petals when attacking helps too (since you’ll drop and not get swallowed). Beads are my weapon of choice here because of range, speed (good for godhood too), and how you can sometimes hit more than one.

Next video is the rematch with everyone’s favourite half-baked prophet, Waka.

Raggs Plays Okami [4] [Straight To The Top] [Tsuta Ruins]

Posted in: Okami Boss Run, raggs plays. Leave a comment

Nope, no references here (well, none intentional).

And not sure if you can tell, bloom has to be one of my least favourite brush techniques. Very pretty, but the game doesn’t recognize the circle or the placement very well sometimes.

Ammy finds the last greensprout technique (after the idiot that was holding the controller finally found her way through the fairly LINEAR dungeon), vine, and is off to the top of the main room’s statue. Not much here I’m afraid. This is the last video of the ruins, so hold onto your undies for the boss fight! Time to get some action!

Next video is the fight with the Spider Queen.

Raggs Plays Okami [3] [Kamikaze Rapist Fish] [Tsuta Ruins]

Yep, that’s what they are.

Not much left to do in the ruins now. I got lost for a little while, but get on track again in the next video for the most part. Not sure HOW I get lost (seeing as this place doesn’t have many side-paths), but I did.

PS: I know I repeated myself, but there are other similarities I forgot to mention (such as the mostly text-based dialogue style, optional side-quests, and villages with lots of interactable NPCs that for the most part have no useful information). Plus, the creators of the game apparently got some influence from those games. Notice how I’m not mentioning anything about Wolf Link (Twilight Princess, which came out a year after Okami AND I STILL WANT TO PLAY IT, DAMN IT ALL!), as Okami tends to have more similarities with older games like OOT. Enough of the Zelda talk, they both kick ass.

Next video is going to be capping off the last bits of business and travelling before getting to the first boss.
